Functional- and Performance Analysis of 100 Gigabit Ethernet-capable devices

Data centers have more and more capacity and there are user subscriptions with bandwidth up to 1 Gbit/s in wired access networks. Because of this tendency, demand for bandwidth in core networks are growing. During this procedure, devices that support 100 Gbit/s Ethernet standard are becoming prevalent. Since these products vary in a wide range – they can use di erent protocols, they can di er in physical layer communication and the modules that are used can be di erent as well –, the comparison of these devices can be challenging.

The purpose of this document is to compare – functionally and in respect of performance – multiple types of products. For this procedure, you need an instrument that can measure and test products that use 100 Gbit/s Ethernet standard. To measure di erent types of devices, you should create di erent conditions during the tests. This is important to be able to test products in various types of use.

In each measurement and test, you have to consider standards for network testing, in order to be able to reach the most precise result possible. This document includes these standards and the way they observed these rules during the tests. In addition, it contains the bottlenecks of the analyzed systems as well.
