Development of a 3d directional application on Android platform

The hardware of smartphones and tablets are developing rapidly. They are providing a more and more wider range of sensors, which can detect the changes around the device. These sensors allow developing mobile applications, which can take advantage of the data they are providing.

The goal of this thesis was to plan and develop an application, which can efficiently use the movement and rotation sensors of Android devices. To show the possibilities of the platform and the hardware, I have created a labyrinth game.

The very simplified version of the labyrinth is created only from rectangles. The camera is showing the view from the sight of a person moving inside the labyrinth, in three dimensions. To look around in the virtual world, the phone has to be moved, like we were looking through a window. Pressing the screen allows the camera to be moved forward, always in the direction we’re actually looking.

The completed game is a very simple version of a real, modern game. It was made only to show the new potentials of the platform, which allows us to create a whole new generation of these applications.
