One of the most popular building automation system is the KNX system. The KNX is an open worldwide standard. The technology can be used in new and existing buildings. It is flexible and easy to extend to adopt to the needs of the users. The KNX system is a building automation system with distributed intelligence, therefore it can be used in small-size buildings like family houses and in large office buildings too. KNX has three different programming possibilities, which makes the installation as easy as possible. These features makes the KNX system a god choice for building automation in any type and size of buildings. The task for the student is to present the different possibilities of the KNX system and make a sample project for a building.
The target of this Bachelor’s thesis was design, document, and program KNX automation system. Furthermore, the main purpose is analyzing the details of KNX devices, systems and possible software.
A result of this thesis, detailed and comprehensive was produced. Due to cost of KNX devices, I was unable to use devices for my project but as I tried with ETS5, the result is 100% successful.

(conclusion)KNX automation can be useful for buildings and any type of properties. As a function, to turn off all the lights from a single control point is simple to apply and will help the daily busy life. Most important functions are those that can save energy, money and provide security.
Main modifications can be easy to apply and complete as possibly they might not need any wiring, only re-programming by ETS. Moreover, during construction it could be easy to wire up extra cables to some spots where bigger modifications might be required.
The selected products for my design, were not from one manufacturer only, which means KNX system doesn’t let you to be in stuck with same manufacturer. And also, KNX automation system requires simple software as ETS. Even non-professional users can install it without an issue.
End of my thesis, I am glad to say that KNX is flexible, smart, and useful automation system. Unfortunately, due to cost of KNX devices that I couldn’t run my project for any building. However, I followed the KNX process as build up the structure and install the programming part with ETS5 Professional, and I learnt a lot about automation systems cause of KNX Association.
