Energy Efficiency Assessment at the Premises of Takarmany Ltd. in Nagyhegyes, Hungary

In my thesis I carried out an agricultural industrial plant’s energy audit. With the study of literature and experiences from my walk-throughs on site I aimed to suggest possible ways of improving energy efficiency and operating cost savings.

First, I present the main equipment with the highest natural gas consumption, like grain dryer and steam furnaces. I introduce the grain dryers’ energy efficiency used in Hungary. I search for ways how to reduce grain dryers’ natural gas consumption and I describe the problem with one of the steam furnaces which I identified. Then I perform an analysis of the electrical energy usage and methods of the power factor correction. Next I describe the renewable energies (wind power, hydro-power, solar power etc.) and choose the optimal renewable energy source considering the plant’s geographical location. After that I investigate possible advantages and disadvantages of using a self-owned distribution transformer. Finally I show the possible savings which may come from the implementation of the new LED technology.
