In the autumn of 2018 I started a two-semester long work to provide solutions for some I&C issues relating to the steam generators of Paks NPP.
In the first part of this thesis, I introduce the structure, operation and function of the PGV-213 type steam generators and the most important mechanical, hydraulical and I&C systems relating to the steam drums. In Chapter 4, I take a look at the instrumentation devices of the steam generators water level and I offer modern devices of which functionality equals to the current ones.
The next part of this thesis contains the description of a simple steam generator plant model, which is dependent on the feedwater and steam flows and which can be used for testing different controllers during real-life transients of the power plant.
Chapter 7 is about the hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environment and the NI LabVIEW virtual instrument that implements the steam generator plant model of Chapter 5. The verification of the steam generator model VI and the HIL environment were carried out according to the procedure discussed in Chapter 8.
In Chapter 9, a description and a MATLAB-SIMULINK model of the currently used, Soviet-made control devices (type R21 and I04) can be found.
In Chapter 10 I introduce my own steam generator water level controller and I test it in my HIL environment and I compare its transient behavior to the original analog devices. Besides, a short description of the possible development of PLC is given.
