Development of an ASP.NET Core based service

The final exams are an important milestone of the studies at the university for the students. Hundreds of students absolve the final exam every semester at Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) alone, which is a requirement for obtaining a diploma. Final exams require serious organization, where not only students but examiners and members of the committee are affected as well. Modern IT services make the organization significantly easier, although at the same time, several workflows are still performed using manual, outdated tools.

In this document I am going to survey the topic of scheduling final exams at the Department of Automation and Applied Informatics (AUT) of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (VIK) at BME. I am going to present a solution consisting of multiple components, that is joined to the Final exam portal of the department and gives a modern, web-based tool in the hands of the organizers. I have developed a module, that adjusts to the known circumstances, builds on the known data and forms a system that considers, but in many aspects, optimizes the actual workflow. This system operates featuring suggestions, automatic corrections, and allows finding errors. Related to this, I prepared some reports that provide feedback of the schedule, and I made the announcement of the schedule possible.

The solution presented here helps utilize opportunities of technology regarding the scheduling of final exams better and strengthens the central role of the Final exam portal in administering affairs of final exams.
