Nowadays, it is more and more common to use data centers especially at the business, monetary, and administrative sectors. Since these bases store very important data, it had been necessary to make a secure copy of the primary center. The secondary center is located at another geography place hence they are called geo-redundant data centers.
For the increasing demand of higher capacity the WDM offers solution to build high data transmission lines, but it has to fulfill certain requirements. Some attributes are raising which are not that critical in case of traditional WDM applications but they are in case of data centers, such as delay or data security.
In my thesis work I am studying WDM technology serving data centers through standard Fiber Channel interfaces. We can build optimal and the most economical connection currently by using WDM.
During the semester I have made some optical basic measurements, and I have examined data centers’ leading point of view by a point-point connection, including delay and Forward Error Correction which has direct impact on delay as well. Furthermore, I demonstrated the effect of bending fiber at the data security’s topic.
