Investigation of potentials in transformer stations with the CDEGS software package

Nowadays electrical power is a vital element for rapidly developing industry and for civilized world. Right to say that without current, life stops really, it is not a question how big priority to have this energy continously and in good quality. Possible interruptions in service comes with heavy consequences both from service and consumer side, so improving safety is a central objective in innovation strategy of eletric suppliers.

The devices which designed to create electric safety are very diverse, often to realize one function people use different type systems. The aim of this study is to examine the necessity of grounding systems and their evolving, and to present the scaling options for these systems with a target software, CDEGS. Firstly I discuss the role of groundings, then I present the types of circuits, and the special element of grounding systems, the grounding mesh. I examine the potential relations (potential-rise, touch voltage and step voltage) in a concrete substation territory and I compare them with the limits from associated standards.
