During the making of my thesis, I dealt with the application specific system state monitoring related to SAP systems. The examined application was SAP’s Integrated Business Planning (IBP) software solution. I had to find such anomalies in this system, that at the time were not causing any errors, but in the future, they had the potential to cause major or minor failures in the system. The task was to create such software solutions that would discover these anomalies and report them to the system administrators and also suggest possible solutions for them, to resolve the problem.
Firstly, throughout my thesis, I’m going to introduce the major development and technological solutions of SAP with great importance on their Cloud infrastructure. Furthermore, I will talk about how the Cloud based application specific monitoring works inside SAP, and how they handle the operation of their Cloud software solutions. This part is going to get great emphasis since my work will integrate into this particular field of SAP.
Secondly, it will be presented, that in such a complex software solution as IBP what kind of anomalies can occur in the backend of the system, especially in the database – emphasis being on data inconsistencies – and also about how we can detect these problems, and if we found them, then what kind of ways do we have for reporting these errors to the system administrators.
Last, but not least, I’m going to show how we can implement and automate such system checks as well as how we can make these checks available for the system administrators in order for them to decide whether or not they will use that check group in a customer system, based on that system’s customer specific requirements.
