Matlab based test evaluation of ADC's with sinusoidal test signal

This paper deals with test methods for analog-to-digital converters (ADC). Reviews the

possible errors and non-ideal behavior of ADCs. Surveys the usual test methods, paying

particular attention to the IEEE-1241 standard for terminology and test methods for

analog-to-digital converters. Presents the ADCTest toobox, a software developed at the Depatment

of Measurement and Information Systems of BME, documents the development

performed by the author. Gives an efficient algorithm to estimate the transition levels of

the ADC, and an other to calculate the effective number of bits (ENOB) using the estimated

transition levels. The accuracy of the given estimators is analyzed via simulations. The

possibility to use these estimators as initial values in maximum likelihood estimation of

ADC parameters is also discussed. The suggested algorithm is compared to the evaluation

of measurement data described in IEEE-1241 standard. The comparison is performed via

processing the same simulated measurement data with the two different algorithm.
