The most important area of the communicational globalization nowadays is definitely the internet getting more and more common day by day. Anyone can post news and share information. Another important factor is, that the users don’t want to use normal PCs only. Mobility is nowadays a key concept, which became a basic principle in informatics as well. Smartphones, tablets and other devices, which can be used by millions of people at any time. The fact, that nearly any device with an internet connection can synchronize our data, makes it possible, that using our favourite application on a home PC or on our phone while we are on the way, doesn’t make a difference. The needs of the users can be summarized easily: getting in touch with our data anywhere at anytime and obtaining information from the world wide web.

The previously written needs are followed by every larger informatics company, which is developing software or manufacturing some kind of hardware. Microsoft is not an exception. The latest operating system, which is Windows 8, is trying to satisfy these needs. The redesigned look takes the applications on step closer to the tablets. Huge innovative advancements are in he background of the new platform. The Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system is following the same innovative direction. The similarities between the two platforms are not just important from the users perspective, the developers have to be taken into consideration as well.

The thesis is demonstrating through sample applications, which were developed by me, that what kind of innovations and possibilities are in the background of the new platforms. The differences, similarities, advantages and disadvantages of the platforms from the perspective of the users and programmers are going to be shown as well.
