Energy analysis of induction motor drive for electric car

Lately electric cars are being used more and more as opposed to internal combustion engine cars. This trend is expected to continue in the future. This thesis is about the energy analysis of an induction motor drive car.

In the first chapter, I compare the basic structural differences between internal combustion motor cars and electric motor cars. I show the reasons for electric cars and also that why they are not yet able to expand on the market.

The second chapter is also based on a comparison. I show the advantages and disadvantages of the most basic electric motors. I put forward the reasons that are important about an automobile. At the end of the chapter, I justify why the use of an induction motor is a good choice.

In the third chapter, I undertake a short energy analysis of the units outside of the electric motor. First, I compare the most commonly used battery types, by specifically looking at those perspectives important for an electric car. After that, I introduce the losses of the inverter that is needed for the electric drive.

In the fourth chapter, the energy balance of the induction motor, the main part of the thesis is shown. I examine the efficiency and losses in both a direct and indirect way.

At the end, the fifth chapter includes a summary of facts and numbers. With the use of losses, I created a Sankey diagram, and also state my personal opinion.
