Automatic testing device for fluorescent lamps utilizing MCU

In my thesis I designed and built the prototype of a test and measurement device for the lighting industry. Its purpose will be to measure electrical and photometric parameters of compact fluorescent lamps.

The device is able to complete the whole process of the measurement, without the need for any kind of user action, aside from the initial setting of measurement parameters. Supplying power to the fluorescent lamp, measuring its electrical parameters, and sending them to the computer can be done exclusively by the device, with no need for external laboratory equipment or instrument. Only the photometrical measurements require an additional spectrometer, my device synchronizes the measurements made by that to its built-in timing too.

I paid exceptional attention to the ease of use, the device got equipped with a color LCD touchscreen according to the state of the art in electronic devices. Every function of it can be reached with using the touch interface. While designing the device I took care to use widely spread, and preferably cheap types of parts. For the central controlling unit I used a 8-bit AVR microcontroller.
