Nowadays different automation tools are getting used in several fields of life, especially in informatics. Cloud based services are also popular today, because they can provide the possibility to build flexible, reliable, economical and secure environments. The merging of these two fields yields lots of interesting challenges. From the 2010s, corporations have begun the usage of DevOps (Development and Operations) view, which is based on automating processes by using automation tools.

My thesis provides an overview of the characteristics of clouds, virtual infrastructures and automation tools, also of their practical applications. I created an OpenStack environment, in which I installed and configured Chef and Cloudify.

I deployed two identical multi-node virtual infrastructure with the combination of OpenStack Heat Orchestration and Chef configuration management tool, then with Cloudify. In my thesis I provided a detailed documentation and evaluation about the installation and usage of the tools and the deployed virtual infrastructure.
