In today's fast paced world, the data bandwidth in access networks has been shown to be increasing. The need for fast internet connection and HDTV service sets the standards high. With the deployment of all optical and hybrid wiring the traditional copper cabling has been obsoleted.
Naturally, with these newer inventions, service providers must replace the old networks and terminals, but the new equipments should go through a complex testing procedure by the telecommunication companies before commissioning and software/firmware upgrades. When the examination tests are done manually they are very time-consuming and monotonous.
Fortunately, there are several test automation solutions for the replacement of the manual examinations in the field of infocommunication technologies. In my thesis I present popular test automation applications that can be found on the market and select the solution, which is best suited for testing end user terminals of optical access networks.
After the detailed presentation of features of the selected program (TestComplete by SmartBear Software), I explain the testing plan dedicated to the examined terminal, then I draw up the problems of the implementation and the engineering solutions of them. Finally, I describe the further use cases of the automatized testing in the relevant field and summarize the results of the work.
