The goal of the electricity market coupling is to create new business opportunities, to expand cross-border trade and to contribute to the security of electric power supply. The target date for internal European electricity market’s realization is the end of 2014.
My thesis summarizes the European efforts of electricity market coupling in the past, the present and the possible scenarios in the future.
The thesis focuses on the already existing coupled markets, especially on the Central Western European region. The main aspects are the high level architecture, capacity determination, flow of information and IT solutions in the electric power market.
I demonstrate the current operation of the Hungarian market, explicate the characteristic and the function of the cross-border capacity auctions and the changes associated with market coupling as well.
A very important project of Hungary is the CZ-SK HU market coupling and the relating current developments, future prospects and opportunities.
