Implementation of embedded XCP client for trailer braking system

Nowdays in the automotive systems, the diagnostics has indispensable importance. Already in the 1990s there were some standards about the diagnostic protocols which were developed especially to automotive applications. The Knorr-Bremse Brake Systems Ltd.’s Trailer Systems group build an XCP diagnostic protocol to their product, which will be released in the near future.

The XCP protocol based on Master-Slave communication. My task is to implement the XCP’s Master side to an embedded device. In my thesis I describe the new system’s advantages, as well as I expound in detail those parts of the standard, what I affected during my work.

During my assignment I developed a software in C programming language, for an 8-bit microcontroller. After I successfully accomplished the protocol’s functions, I applied them to complete properly the specified task.

After the implementation I evaluate the results which based on a vehicle test’s experiences and measurements and I make proposal about the next steppes, and about the future developments.
