The goal of my Bachelors thesis is to create a research project in which I examine whether SAP HANA is capable of implementing and running a Big Data trend analysis algorythm. The concrete algorythm has to operate as close to real time as possible. In order to achieve this, I use the SAP HANA built in tools to filter and create a data structure that is easy to process for the algorythm. The query processes public Twitter tweets, simulating a batch system that processes all entries once a day. The results are visualised using a word cloud.
In this paper, I present the subjects of data analysis and data mining, and their connections with business intelligence. The chapters are organized as follows. First, I present a summary of the past and the present of business intelligence followed by one of the future directions on this area called the Social Business Intelligence. After the theoretical background, I present step by step the implementation and operation of my algorythm. Finally, I summarize the experiences I had during this project and draw conclusions towards possible ways of improvement.
