In my thesis I have developped an application, that supports it’s users’ everyday journeys in the city of Budapest by bus, underground, tram, suburban rails and ship. Nowadays, with the widespread popularity of modern smartphones, the average passenger has enough computing resources in his/her pocket, to access a full public transportation system of a metropolis, even without active data connection. My application takes this opportunity to provide helpful informations in a clear and understandable way. Beside the temporary state of the device, it can observe the user’s habits and custom needs. The goal was to create a level of artificial intelligence that can improve the user experience.
The program implements an efficient route planner algorithm, with the usage of algorithm theory and artificial intelligence sciences. The application is able to plan multiple alternative routes between two stops in a few seconds, and it can also visualize them on the phone’s maps.
The application is created for the Microsoft’s newest operating system, the Windows Phone 8, and it uses plenty of it’s services. The user interface follows the Metro style, that is common on Windows products, it uses clear and lucid elements for the output representation of necessary datas.
