Building a chat based personal assistant

Nowadays, the Internet has become an essential part of our lives, it is one of our most important source of information, but it is not a simple task to find the content that is relevant to us. Chat applications help us to keep in touch with our friends, and we use them to convey and share all sorts of information. A new and interesting direction of the development of the Internet is the appearance of user assistants, one of whose main goal is facilitating people’s everyday lives. Some of these are based on existing messaging applications (chatbots), so people can take advantage of the services they provide without installing a new program. Companies are trying to ease and replace customer service tasks with such chatbots, because an application is available 24 hours a day, and it does not have a problem in case it has to answer the same question one after the other.

The purpose of the thesis is to create a chat based personal assistant that can send the menu of selected restaurants daily to help the user in choosing a restaurant, furthermore to notify the user if the contents of a website that he has added changes, so one does not have to manually check the pages if an interesting content for the user might have appeared.

In the first part of my thesis, I present the user assistant development opportunities provided by popular chat applications. Then I plan a chatbot application on a chosen platform and then realize it by using state-of-the-art technologies, which can provide the mentioned functions.
