On the Internet, which we use as an essential part in our lives, the digital media content is available for everyone. That is why it becomes more important every year to continuously develop the media consciousness and media literacy of parents and their children.
More often than not they try to guard against the dangers of the World Wide Web using merely pedagogical methods. Given that the content gets in front of youngsters without selection and qualitative filtration, this can cause even permanent distortion in our children’s personal development. The solutions available on the markets so far are easy to evade and their maintenance needs an excessive amount of time.
In my thesis, I would like to present the client-side of a solution which is built upon the existing psychological, educational and technological results. Besides, it has got a pedagogical function as well because as opposed to other products it is not based on prohibition but builds upon the curiosity of children or youngsters and upon the fact that they can be motivated. Not only does it concentrate on filtration but it also recommends those contents which contribute to the appropriate informational provision of children. Using groupings of different aspects, it considers the typical characteristics of the age group in question while the selection of content is based on professionals’ opinion and expertise. Hereby, parents have to devote less energy to the time-consuming and often unsuccessful filtration of the plethora of information.
Its user interface was created with taking ergonomic considerations into account. In this way, an extensive system was designed which handles the numerous platforms and technology as a standard mechanism. Content management can be maintained with the help of the parents on a platform which monitors the user interface controlled by experts. The advantage of the solution is that no application has to be installed on tablets, smartphones or other portable devices. The only thing needed is Internet access. It tries to target every essential digitalised resource of communication, such as chat forums, e-mail systems, IPTV, video, audio to mention but a few. Therefore, in the long run the younger generation is protected when encountering any kind of digital content.
