Design of a digital pen

The goal of my Bachelor thesis is the development of a pen, which is capable of sensing position in the space. The pen is being capable of detecting the displacement of its tip, with the use of the internal sensors.

The task can be divided into two tasks. The development of the hardware, which contains an accelerometer and a gyroscope, and it should be able to transfer the data wirelessly to a personal computer, or smartphone. The second task is the development of the software. The hard part of it is the filter of the data received from the sensor, and with the right mathematics, calculating the displacement with integral methods.

The design of the hardware requires the picking of necessary electronic components, then we design a custom Printed Circuit Board. It is important to note, when choosing components to keep in mind, that the whole system will be powered from a Lithium Polymer battery. The manufactured PCB received a custom 3D printed case, designed with CAD software.

My final project contains the detailed description of the hardware design, and the design of a working version of the software.
