The nowadays increasingly widespread digital video interfaces (DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort) have numerous advantages compared to the analog realization. Their main benefit is that they are able to transmit signals without distortion. In case of the analog VGA interface we need A/D and D/A conversion for the digital processing and the quality of the high resolution pictures can decrease depending on the length and the quality of the cable.
Previously, only the high-priced Virtex FPGA devices from Xilinx were suitable for the efficient realization of the digital video interfaces. This feature has become available also in the low-priced segment with the availability of the Spartan-6 FPGA devices. These FPGAs contain all hardware resources required for the easy realization of the DVI and HDMI interfaces without additional external circuits.
The aim of this thesis is to realize DVI/HDMI interface on LOGSYS Spartan-6 FPGA card developed at the Department of Measurement and Information Systems and to prepare a median filter to present the operation of digital video interface.
