Implementation of an EBSF compliant on-board diagnostic system

This document presents the development of software components of a BUS-FMS to RS232 gateway. The components are part of an on-board diagnostic unit in an EBSF (European Bus System of the Future) use case project. I wrote my paper at the Micro Team Ltd. The company supplied the hardware for the development.

The EBSF is an ongoing project, and the standards are not released yet. However I had access to the drafts some of them is not developed yet, and I had to design an own protocol for the transmission between the two communication interfaces. To make valid design decisions, I had to study the BUS-FMS standard, and the EBSF on-board and back-office computer systems.

This paper describes the studied standards and systems, the designed protocol, the used hardware, and the developed software. Finally, it gives an insight into the structure of the implemented test bench, and a summary about the performed work.
