Verification of Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) function software requirements with integrations tests in HIL/SIL environment

This thesis is based on a one-year period of trainee activity at Knorr-Bremse Ltd. in the division of commercial vehicles. The thesis focuses on the standalone Electronic Parking Brake product, more precisely testing of its software function. The first part speaks about a short theoretical background of brake systems in general and the basis of the Electonic Parking Brake.

The second part is about hardware in the loop integration testing which was perfromed at Brake Function group. The used testing environment is introduced, the hardware as well as the important software features. Moreover, based on real life requirments three function tests are presented as examples.

The thirds part is about the beginning of processor in the loop test development. This was performed at Electronic Air Conditioning group. The hardware is presented in shortly. The main focus is on a python based tester tool called PYTE. The same integration tests have been started which is described with the help of examples through one revisited and two newly implemented tests within this environment.

In the end, based on the experience during testing and test developing, the two mentioned systems are shortly compared. Another goal is to determine whether the test environment of the Electronic Air Conditioning group is caplable of such integration test.

Unfortunately, software in the loop testing is not featured in this thesis even though the title refers to it. Although the processor in the loop test environment has higher priority, its future possibility is described with a few words.
