In days of recession people cut their expenses and sell their unwanted property. It is especially true in a fast developing area such as IT or telecommunication.

Old servers which were changed by companies, can provide good performance under an efficient server application. Also old location aware smartphones which cannot be sold for a reasonable price could be used as a tracker of a fleet tracker system instead. Upcycling the discarded equipment is not just cost-effective, but environment friendly in the same time, contributing to a company's efforts to make their systems more sustainable.

The distributed fleet tracking system that has been made during the term, provides low memory footprint and high scalability which made it perfect for using it on and old server system.

By using an efficient communication protocol it provides low mobile data usage, which results in low mobile plan rates. Limits of the system were determined by load tests and operational costs were calculated from resource usage.
