User Positioning in LTE Systems

During my thesis I implemented an LTE based positoning algorithm in a suitable framework and simulated it’s behavior in different scenarios.

First of all I will present the currently used positioning techniques, their connections with each other and different algorithms in mobile networks.

After that, I will look at the positioning in Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems, and explain the usage of PRS and OFDM modulation.

I made a test system for simulations after WINNER Teams Matlab based channel model (WINNER2) and implemented an OTDoA based positioning algorithm. Using this algorithm I made measurements in four different scenarios with various propagational attributes.

The channel models operation, in- and output parameters and the simulated scenarios will be explained in the later chapters. I will then present the various methods and functions of my simulation.

In the end, I will examine and evaluate the obtained measurement results and propose further development options for the algorithm.
