In the first half of the semester I performed a research in professional literature thus I have become familiar with the basics of the second, third and fourth generation mobile telecommunication networks. During this method, I focused on the features supporting the positioning of users. Almost half of this thesis consists of the essentials of this research.
In this part the above mentioned networks will be presented and also a part of the positioning methods supported by them. At first I will introduce the positioning in general, then the most important methods in more details. Some important elements of the LTE network what support the positioning functionality will also be mentioned, e.g. LTE Positioning Protocol or Positioning Reference Signal.
In the other main section of the thesis, I will attempt to implement a pattern matching positioning method in a MATLAB based simulation environment developed at the Department of Networked Systems and Services. Among the simulator, the WINNER II channel model will be presented too. I will also perform a series of simulations on the implemented method, and evaluate its results.
Finally I will summarize the points, and draw up some possibilities of improvement.
