The value of information earned from data has had increasing significance through the last decade. Logs collected from information technology systems and software allow several analytics and statistics, which could provide faster solutions for fixing errors and allow avoiding future problems. It also provides good data source for further data mining.
The purpose of my thesis is to get familiar with MTA SZTAKI LPDS infrastructure, and create a modern, up to date system for information technology log collection which provides sorting, categorization, and log tracking possibilities.
Through my work, I have investigated the infrastructure and the current logging solution to created a list of criteria for a centralized logging system. I had compared the available log storing technologies, then I have created an abstract architectural design. I have made a research on the available technologies for each of the components participates in the design. After choosing the concrete technologies, I have created a detailed architecture design of the logging system. I have built the system by following the design and defined metrics to show the usage of the newly created system.
