Analysing GPS position data in the cloud

The cloud computing is exponentially growing. This huge wave will soon reach all branches of informatics, whether we talk about a simple webpage, the data storage or the artificial intelligence.

In my thesis, I provide an insight into Microsoft’s cloud, the Microsoft Azure and I present it in the perspective of storing, analysing and showing GPS location data. The spread of internet of things, the everyday smart-device usage needs will need the processing and the infrastructural support of an extraordinary amount of data. This dataset consists of a large number of location data, produced by the Global Positioning System. I show solutions created for this special type of data.

My task includes the review of the file formats used to store GPS position data. I also show the various methods of presenting feature data on the web using JavaScript. The document includes the usage of DocumentDB, the MSSQL server spatial data store capability and a solution of a machine learning problem in Microsoft Azure.
