Examination and Implementation of Geofencing and Beacon Technologies in Parkl Application

In the society nowadays the mobile phones take a big part of our lives. These gadgets are indispensable in our private life and during work. Many people use them for location determining.

Parkl is working with a new concept of parking where they open the empty parking spaces of parking lots and hotels to everybody. The goal is to develop the application further and expand the available functions with new technologies.

In the thesis, I present and compare two location-based technologies: Beacons and Geofencing. I create a Proof of Concept mobile application with Xamarin for both. Then I present the basics of user experience research with concrete methodologies. Using three of them I’m doing research in location-based notifications. Finally, with the gathered experience I implement one of the technologies in the Parkl application.

These developments are not yet available in the live application. Before releasing legal advices have to be taken into consideration.
