Processing CAN data of vehicles

Nowadays, modern vehicles come with a lot of sensors, controllers and regulator devices built into them, which highly depend on each other in function. CAN-bus (Controller Area Network) provides a shared communication channel for these microcontrollers and devices, without a central host computer. Vital information exchanges take place through the CAN-bus, thus no wonder that a company specialized in GPS tracking of vehicles, would like to analyse these data. There is no general agreement between automaker companies regarding the formula on how the data should be coded, therefore, to accomplish this task, the use of other helping tools is required. These helping tools should enable us to record, playback, generate and listen to any CAN datastreams.

In my thesis, I present the designing and implementation process of an application, that satisfies these given requirements with the help of a CAN USB device, and provides other useful informations to help in the analysis of these datastreams.
