With the release of Windows 8, Microsoft has also entered to the world of Tablet PCs. The consumers meet a completely new and innovative user interface, called Modern UI, which offers interesting challanges for the developers. The thesis aims to describe the most important changes which appear in Windows 8 in both platform and application side, as well as the possibilities in programming, along with the new approach of this platform. A new platform is available for the consumers and programmers, which gives an opportunity to use the applications’ capabilities. There were significant changes in the applications’ life cycle, which should be familiar to the mobile application developers.
The thesis demostrates the capabilites of the WinRT API behind the Windows 8 applications, through an own application using C# and XAML. The application is a mindmap tool that represents a graph with nodes, people and files choosen by the user. Unlike the standard appearance, the application is using the opportunities offered by Modern UI. The application implements specific capabilities, such as search support and sharing data with other applications.
