Controller replacement and SCADA integration of a ultrafiler equipment in pharmaceutical industry

Nowadays, it is of paramount importance to produce vaccines, the amount and quality of which are extremely important to prevent contagious epidemics and juvenile deaths. In order to guarantee the maximum vaccine production capacity and the highest quality, it is essential to keep up-to-date, standardized production systems suitable for tracking production data.

A leading Hungarian pharmaceutical manufacturer is standardizing its vaccine production line in one of its local factories. The PLC code of each equipment must communicate via a common interface with the supervisory and data acquisition (SCADA) system, as well as comply to the ISA-88 system architecture. These requirements are of major importance for the safe operation of the factory.

My thesis describes the replacement of the control systems of each ultrafiltration equipment situated on said production line, according to the requirements mentioned above. The hardware configuration remains unchanged, the central unit is a Siemens S300 PLC. Siemens Step7 was used as the development environment.
