HD test patterns and their making

In the first part of my paper I will present the parameters of the high definition (HD) television formats, the image resolutions; this will include both the digital and analog characteristic features, and interfaces will also be described.

In the followings I will explain the two most frequently used compression methods, the MPEG-2 and H.264. I will investigate how the data speed can be reduced by means of these methods, how the redundance is removed.

I will describe the test methods of picture quality in case of either analog or digital systems; furthermore I will introduce those devices through which the measurements can be performed; and even the software-based picture quality testing. I make own measurements to show the difference between the H.264 and MPEG-2 compression methods.

Finally, I prepare test picture/test video sequence with the help of Blackmagic DeckLink Studio and Third Party softwares, describing in details this process. I will summarize the other characteristic features of the applied device, furthermore I present the attached softwares too.
