Extensive sharing and using of data plays an important role in the fourth industrial revolution. We can find SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) systems in more and more plants, but as the approach of IoT (Internet of Things) has became widespread, there is a need for standardizing communication protocols used by these systems. Because web based technologies also appeared in industrial systems, it is obvious to use HTTP communication.
The thesis shortly presents the evolution of SCADA systems and their most important features, then examines a web based SCADA platform in detail, higlighting the differences compared to traditional thick client systems. It also analyizes the properties of HTTP and HTTP based solutions, making a suggestion for their use in SCADA systems.
The second part presents the use of HTTP based technologies through a test application, which is capable of reading tag values from field devices. It shows the schema of the process controlled by these field devices in a web browser, and dynamizes the elements of the graphics according to received tag values.
