With the prevalence of smartphones in our days there is a growing demand for mobile device specific administrative interfaces. This poses a new challenge especially for administering systems which are part of critical network infrastructure, because firstly the authentication and authorization process has to deal with greater security concerns in case of a mobile phone, and secondly the timely notification of system events has to be assured.

The aim of this paper is to examine the possible answers for the problems outlined above on the Apple iOS and Google Android operating systems, respectively to show the design of an application running under iOS which allows for the utilization of certain services of the BalaBit Shell Control Box (SCB) activity monitoring appliance, using the results of the research.

The paper touches on the following subjects: push notification services, possibilities for implementing One Time Password solutions, server-side integration, protocols for client-server communication.
