Sound source detection in indoor environment

In today’s modern world communication has an increasing role in our lives. We communicate with each other and we communicate with our tools and our machines. In these communications most of the people rely on both vision and hearing. However there are some people, who primarily gather information with their vision. Also there are some cases when people can only rely on their vision. Fortunately, a growing number of tools are available, that can help the deaf people. For example, we can think about the development of hearing aid devices or the spreading of the subtitles in television services, like movies or TV shows.

In preparation of my thesis, I tried to create such a system that can also help the deaf people. First, I had to inspect the sounds, which can be heard in interiors. And I also had to examine the needs of the deaf people and the available tools. After gathering the information, I planned such a system that can notify the user about any taught sound. Finally I created a demonstration system based on the plan and I tested it.
