The objective of my thesis is to design a modular control system, for Carillon-control and Fountain-control. The signals controlling this system are in MIDI format.

During my work, I analyzed the problem and formulated the requirements. With these in view, I decided the structure of the controller. This system has to autonomously control every piece of the carillon or fountain.

In the first part of my thesis, I differentiated two types of modules. A MainBoard, which is the brain of the controller, and an ExtensionBoard, which physically interacts with the controlled system.

In the second part, I determined the specific parts needed on the MainBoard, to achieve the autonomous mode. Secondly, I designed a bus protocol, for the communication between the MainBoard and the ExtensionBoards.

In the third part, I laid out the schematic of the MainBoard and designed the printed circuit board. Furthermore, I designed a standard ExtensionBoard controller, which gives the possibility to easily design a new extension. Using this as the starting point, I created a 24 channel DA0-10V card.
