Smartphones have been gained in popularity in the past few years. Recently sold devices contain many sensors that help location services. In addition with the help of cell information provided by cellular networks it is also possible to determine the position of the device.

In my thesis I demonstrate the building of an application that enables to send notifications to nearby smartphones. To do this there is a web site for registering stores and events. Furthermore notifications can be sent in the name of these stores and events. Messages sent this way will be delivered to the users of my mobile application that are closer than a specific distance. The service works all the time even if the mobile application is not started.

In the first part of the thesis I introduce the technologies and their most important properties that I used in the application. After that I demonstrate the architecture of the system and finally I present the main steps of creating the web application, web services and the mobile client.
