This thesis work focuses on the development of a user-friendly interface that can be attractive for tourists, locals and even students that want to know more about their environment, since hidden information can be obtained using your own location coordinates.
It includes investigation of geolocation-based applications, explains in detail what they can achieve in the present, and it also features approximations of what it is expected in the near future with applications utilizing this feature.
It presents the design of a theoretical information system with wide functionalities such as rendering a list of places that are nearby with an extract of information, decision making based on preferences from the user, a social media component, and a news portal. This system has the aim to regulate the information load so that it can be digestible for users that want to read information about the places around where he is passing by.
At the last section, the development of a demo application for the theoretical system is presented, the testing of the demo app with users and its documentation, and the evaluation of results and what is left to be done.
