During my Degree project I gave further considerations to my BSc degree thesis, and I dealt with positioning in mobile networks again, but this time I investigated a positioning method (which was modelled by me) in reality, with the help of an active mobile network.
In the first half of the thesis I introduce the structure, operation and technical background of one of the latest wireless communication technologies, the LTE system, which is considered to be a 4G wireless service. In my dissertation I devote a whole chapter for the positioning part of the LTE system: the LTE Positioning Protocol (LPP) and the Positioning Reference Signals (PRS) will be presented, and I also present the mobile network based positioning techniques which are standardized in the LTE, such as OTDOA, E-CID, or A-ECID methods.
In the last part of the thesis I present an implementation of a positioning process (A-ECID) which can be used in LTE. For the positioning process I made a mobile application for this purpose. This application is not only for positioning; it is also able to investigate the effectiveness of the implemented A-ECID method by multiple view.
