The aim of this thesis is twofold: From one hand, it tries to present the general user experience of the mobile devices of nowadays market, emphasizing the 2D and 3D surfaces of the user interface. From the other hand, it tries to expand the existing solutions by taking advantage of the ever-growing possibilities provided by the increasing hardware and software capabilities of the mobile devices.
After the introduction comes the chapter of the theoretical foundations of the thesis. In the first subchapter there will be a summary of the main user interfaces with a historical overview regarding their change and development through the time, and also a small foreshadowing of the near-future solutions.
In the second subchapter the Android platform will be described. The following subchapter will be an introduction of the open-source min3d graphics engine with the aim of presenting the relationship between the Android and the OpenGL technology on mobile devices.
The second chapter will be about the innovative user interface concept I aimed to create during the semester. It will begin with the exposition of the main concepts in the first subchapter and the following subchapters include the software realization along with the problems that may occur during the work, also with the solutions given by me.
The last chapter presents the usage of the created user interface. I will rate the user experience it provides and I will also make proposals for a full-fledged 3D surface concept based on the gained experience.
