Intelligent Lighting in a Smart City Context

The Smart City is a new, mostly indecisive, but an extremely important topic. In the first part of the essay, I found out what does the expression “smart city” means, what do the companies and trade groups think about the subject. I outlined what kind of problems should be solved and how necessary is to solve these problems nowadays. Then, by dividing the smart city into parts, I examined what technologies are currently being used in each areas, and what are the solutions which are not yet widespread, but can be used in the future, while highlighting their benefits.

The second part of the topic dealt with public lighting. I examined the importance of the lighting itself and which are the currently worldwide technologies. Within the confines of the “Élhető Jövő Park” project operating in Fót I presented a public lighting system distributed by a Hungarian company. Due to measurement data received from the public lighting park I made calculations of efficiency. In addition, I looked for a solution on how to detect a failure of public lighting. I created a model that calculates the amount ot the current, based on the supply voltage and the outside temperature. I examined how accurate this model is, what kind of errors could be detected and how many lamps could be handled together. Finally, I have listed some development ideas of mine related to the public lighting system.
