Simultaneously with the ever accelerating development of electronic devices, the demand has appeared to make our homes automated and remote controlled. Today the specialized companies offer a wide selection of smart home solutions for the average people. They can choose from plenty of sensors and actuators and they are able to select the best fitting central control unit. But unfortunately devices from different manufacturers are frequently not compatible with each other, so the subsequently bought equipments can cause faulty operation.
In the last few years at the Department of Telecommunications and Media Informatics, Budapest University of Technology and Economics several smart home application prototypes have been developed, which are providing new and innovative features for users. My aims were to examine these devices and specify a smart home system that can be built at the university.
During the design it was necessary to take specific properties and limitations set by the environment into account. In addition, I was responsible for planning new functions for existing devices and implementing the required hardware and software components. Finally my task was to install and test the system on the site.
