Intelligent home environment with Zigbee devices

Thanks to the widespread use of the internet, the world is at your fingertips. Gaining general information and news are as important as gaining personal news from social network sites. Through these sites we get to know everything about our acquaintances, relatives, friends – but nothing about our home.

The main goal of this thesis to prove that the Home Gateway environment is capable of managing the attributes and properties of various intelligent home devices and that the Home Gateway environment is capable of notifying the user about these attributes. The application made for this thesis demonstrates these functions.

The first part of the thesis leads through the theoretical base of the research: Explains the new features of the Home Gateway devices, introduces the OSGi system and the ZigBee small-distance digital radio network protocols. After this the Cisco TES301 Services Home Gateway device - on which the application runs - will be analyzed.

In the second part the details of the application made for managing the intelligent sensors and the assigned alarms will be explained. After declaring the goal of the application, the architecture will be unfolded. The highlights of the architecture will be explained with the help of the important parts of the written code. At the end of this part, the usage of the application will be detailed.

The last part of the thesis is about the usability and the potential future improvements of the application.
