Developing an interactive social trend monitoring application with React

We live in a really fast-paced world and society, where it is getting more and more challenging to keep up with what is going on around us. The world wide web has become a part of our everyday life, which makes it possible for us to get more information than ever before. The widespread of the internet also results in more data generated by being present on social media and using search engines. Geographic location is still a huge factor in what people search or tweet about, therefore it could be useful to visualise this kind of information on a map-based interface.

The goal of this thesis is to design, implement and test a user interface for this purpose. In order to do it, potentional datasources and visualisation methods will be researched first.

It will come to light that getting data of this kind is not easy, but is possible to an extent. Furthermore, that modern digital map platforms can be used very well for data visualisation. The following main chapters will present a React and Redux based client application and it’s architecture, that aims to fulfill expectations towards modern websites with a great user experience while providing a solution for the initial idea.
