Interactive map visualisation in modern browsers

The thesis presents a web application which is capable to show nearby locations and services on an interactive map based on the users current position. The application allows the users to change their position, filter the services and locations by different categories, search for a location and provides some recommendations for the users based on their reviews. The application should be responsive to work properly on devices with different screen sizes, needs to be scalable and easy to improve. In the first part of the thesis the existing location based services are introduced and analyzed, paying particular attention on availability and precision of data available for Hungary. The different types of recommendation systems are also overviewed in this chapter. The next chapter is devoted to system and database design, where different frameworks and libraries are introduced, the communication possibilities between the client and the server are overviewed and the different user authentication approaches are analyzed. After the system design the thesis is continued with the system implementation, where all the client and server side methods are specified, the libraries and frameworks used during the implementation are introduced and the steps of filtering and importing data are defined. The thesis ends with different test results, summary and recommendations for further development.
