Design and development of a Java Spring based backend application for parking space optimization system

Nowadays, cost effective resource management is an extremely important factor for large companies with hundreds of employees. There is an increasing demand coming from companies to have these kind of management tasks solved using applications based on recent web and mobile technologies.

This thesis is based on a real business project that aims to create a system, which enables optimum utilization of parking spaces provided to employees. By using this system, workers can make reservations for parking spaces through Android or iOS applications and system administrators can observe the utilization of parking spaces in a web application.

This paper describes the functional requirements placed towards the backend application that serves the client applications. It presents the design process, chosen technologies, the architecture of the solution and the important steps of the implementation with parts from the source code. Then, it discusses the testing of the application and the integration with the clients.

After evaluating the solution and summarizing the experiences, it presents the possibilities for future improvements of the application.
