Nowadays the products of the automotive industry is very diverse and getting more and more complex. It is hard to treat them uniformly in one application. Most of the applications need to pass through between communication protocols, which adds plus problems and tasks during the development. To ensure this demand completely, we need to know exactly both side’s attributes and then design the connections between them accordingly. This thesis aims to design and realize such a hardware which does the transition between procotols, defined by the specific automotive tasks. It means now a transmission of a video stream.
The thesis is part of the development taken place in Robert Bosch Kft. Department of Car Multimedia - Instrumentation Systems (CM-IS). The department deals with the development of instrument clusters, central and head-up displays mainly for middle- and high class automobiles. The defined tasks were implemented within the hardware design divison.
The aim was to design an electronic subsystem which accomodates and utilizes the data and functions from the extant special camera system, and transform them into a standard automotive video interface (Automotive PIXel link). The problem consisted of the design of the schematic with the PCB layout and the programming and synchronization of the digital subsystems, an FPGA and a microcontroller. The lack of information was an additional difficulty, but it is common in industrial environment which improves the engineering approach and creativity.
As a result of the work, the aimed protocol conversion with the fully functional hardware and software components were realized. The demonstration and the phasing of the parts of the whole system can be followed through the documentation. The thesis make proposals for the explanations of the unknown details of the original system, and gives an overview of future improvement opportunities.
